As part of Women’s Month, the Women in Rail League reaffirmed its commitment to female empowerment in the railway industry through its event, “The Unreasonable & Unexpected to Reach the Extraordinary,” which brought together leading professionals in the field.
In a traditionally male-dominated sector, significant changes have been made, yet there is still a long way to go. Women represent approximately 20% of the global railway workforce, according to the "Women in Rail 2024" report by the Spanish Railway Foundation (FFE). However, their presence in operational and leadership roles has been steadily increasing, reflecting a transformation in the industry's structure.
Egis Mexico's Presence at the Event
One of the most significant announcements at the event was the appointment of Diana Rivero, our Business Development Manager in the Commercial Transport division for Egis Mexico, as Co-Ambassador of the League in the country. This recognition marks a key step in expanding the community of female professionals in the railway sector, strengthening collaborative networks.
The event featured the participation of Francisco Fabila, President of the Mexican Railway Association (AMF), who emphasized the importance of fostering professional excellence in the sector beyond simply increasing gender representation. In this regard, the leadership of women such as Alix Cruz, Chief Operating Officer at Ferrovalle; Rocío Hernández, Logistics Director at Ferrovalle; and Vianey De la Mora, General Director of AMF, highlights the impact of female participation in the development of Mexico’s railway industry.
As part of the event’s activities, Yudi Monterroso, our Operations Engineer at Egis Mexico, delivered a lecture on Railway Operations, emphasizing the importance of smart mobility and its role in enhancing transport accessibility and scalability.
A Shared Commitment
At Egis, gender equity is a priority. Our efforts to increase female participation in the AEC industry have led to an increase in the proportion of women in strategic roles, from 21% to 25% in just one year. Our goal is to reach 30% by 2027, fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment.
Initiatives like the Women in Rail League are key to shaping a future with a positive impact, and for Egis, actively participating in this transformation is a tangible step toward meaningful change.
